Greetings Yogis or Yogi-to-be-Yogis!
Yoga Beginners or Yogis that are more familiar with corporate style yoga brands like Core Power and Bikram are often confused by the semi private concept of Hydra Yoga. Our semi-private classes are classes designed to meet the needs of each individual in the class. The title “semi-private” is often used when individuals want to spend more one-on-one time with a instructor who would otherwise be teaching a much larger class. Right now at Hydra Yoga in Campbell California ALL our classes are semi-private, teaching to no more than FIVE students at a time.
I get asked about the concept a lot because I generally discourage students from “dropping in” before I’ve had a chance to talk to them over the phone or see them for a massage. It is very important to me to know the body’s limitations, strengths as well as the intuitive spirit and personal goals to design a perfect healing system crafted for each individual. I’ve been meaning to write about this for a long time but I didn’t want it to come off as if I “invented the wheel” with small class size yoga. Small class size yoga has been around since yoga began. I think the confusion is that I teach similar styles as the larger brands; power, hot and ashtanga-improve, but I do it in a setting which makes each class feel like a personally customized massage. (Maybe a deep tissue one.)
Hope you enjoy!
Hydra Yoga Final Charlottesville Classes at Barre.d Studio (216 Water Street)
Just as the chill of fall is in the air and UVA students are wandering back into yoga class Hydra Yoga we must announce our last 8 classes in Charlottesville are hosted at “Barre.d” studio in October as Kelly Zimmerman is moving to San Jose, California! We must apologize as many of you seem pumped for the fall season. We are sad but excited to join forces with Barre.d for our final 8 classes in Charlottesville Virginia for at least some time! Creating a studio and clinic on the downtown mall of Charlottesville has been an absolute dream. We have all enjoyed the beauty of our downtown space- a space and community like no other in the world. After moving from the Glassbuilding quite suddenly things were really chaotic BUT we have built as small pack of serious and fun loving yogis– that is something we should all be proud of.
Fun classes, small group sizes, integrated healing methods. With VERY REAL healing experienced by every student, Hydra is a truly unique method, thrilling to be a part of and a vision we hold to be true to the tradition of yoga in a culture which is pressuring yoga to become more commercialized, less personal, less substantial. Our personal standard aligns us with our truth and it is our goal to help you find your own personal truth too. Although we are happy to guide you to referrals during this time- the light of HYDRA is inside you and with diligent practice you too will come to master your own unique voice. We are not proud that we made this community- we are proud so many students and patients were inspired by our unique methods in massage and yoga.
San Francisco, Los Gatos, the Esalen Institue, Santa Cruz and Harbin Hot Springs are all places that offer Kelly Zimmerman the instruction she wants to continue grow as a clinical healer. You know with such a highly talented teacher/healer you must up the ante on the level of instruction one needs to grow! Charlottesville is her home town and she will never be gone for long. The website will stay live offering local retreats and local Charlottesville classes from herself and her colleagues and apprentices. Register on Hydra Yoga’s MindBody as you normally do to stay tuned to the class schedule.
Big shout out to everyone who participated in our Massage retreat last weekend. It was grand listening to the cows moo and coyotes howl with you!! We are currently organizing another retreat in December- let us know your favorite dates or locations for December- OTHER than your living room!
Although we will keep our space at Divine Play we will no longer be in Suite 211 as of April 22nd. We’ve found a place on the downtown pedestrian mall. Some classes and massages will keep rolling during the transition period out of Divine Play. (We have a full home studio for massages in the Fry Springs area of Charlottesville.) By the first week of May we’ll be moved! And continue to be awesome! Stay tuned to our class schedule for updates. For example, 9:00 am classes are now registration required.
A heart felt thank you for building this community with us!
Join us for soothing meditation practice every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7:30am in the Warm Vinyasa class.
We also partner with a local Dharma Center Wednesday at 7:00pm or Saturday at 11:00am at the Jefferson Tibetan Society, behind Cherry Avenue. We encourage students of all backgrounds to learn classical shamatha, or breath-focused, mediation. Unlike other forms of deep-tissue massage therapy and work-out yoga, Thai Massage and the style of Hot Yoga and Warm Vinyasa we practice at Hydra Yoga Spa encourages a deeper understanding of these spiritual practices.
Although our yoga instructors and massage therapists lead small portions of guided meditation durning class, the traditional cultivation of regular meditation practice and understanding the Dharma has tremendous physical and mental benefits. Although spiritual in nature, these practices can be easily incorporated into any persons practice of prayer or relaxation time. Meditation decreases stress and anxiety, increases focus and clarity, relieves migraines, chronic fatigue, depression and mood swings (to name a few). Meditation, and the mental insight it induces is like the drug that cures all aliments. Simply put, meditation is massage for the brain and emotional spirit. Help us find the right class for you!
Suggested $10 donation for Wednesday and Saturdays.
