Greetings Yogis or Yogi-to-be-Yogis!
Yoga Beginners or Yogis that are more familiar with corporate style yoga brands like Core Power and Bikram are often confused by the semi private concept of Hydra Yoga. Our semi-private classes are classes designed to meet the needs of each individual in the class. The title “semi-private” is often used when individuals want to spend more one-on-one time with a instructor who would otherwise be teaching a much larger class. Right now at Hydra Yoga in Campbell California ALL our classes are semi-private, teaching to no more than FIVE students at a time.
I get asked about the concept a lot because I generally discourage students from “dropping in” before I’ve had a chance to talk to them over the phone or see them for a massage. It is very important to me to know the body’s limitations, strengths as well as the intuitive spirit and personal goals to design a perfect healing system crafted for each individual. I’ve been meaning to write about this for a long time but I didn’t want it to come off as if I “invented the wheel” with small class size yoga. Small class size yoga has been around since yoga began. I think the confusion is that I teach similar styles as the larger brands; power, hot and ashtanga-improve, but I do it in a setting which makes each class feel like a personally customized massage. (Maybe a deep tissue one.)
Hope you enjoy!
